Basically, MP2 can either be set in the same timeline as MP, albeit centuries or millennia in the future, or can be set in an entirely new timeline altogether. The advantages of the same timeline would primarily be you could uncover records of MP's civilisations.

Future would seem to be the choice. I will likely go 1000 or so years. Plenty of time for wtfery to happen.

Well it sounds like it adopts the historical record, but it's not a direct sequel a la the Aftermath.
