Continents, 60% Water.
Mass Regicide, all victories besides Wonder allowed. Random seed, culturally-linked starts. Respawned AI players.
My standard variant. I've set it so there's about 15 of each resource on a random map. No corruption. There's 30 Iron, which means some poor sod won't have any. Chances are it'll be me.
All states start in the Middle Ages, which always guarantees a lollercoaster with regards to religious wonders. Hey, small price to pay for a quicker game.
I'm playing as China, which is Agricultural, Religious and Industrious. IRA (Latin for "Wrath," how lovely) is a wonderful combo and only shared by the Mayans.
There are 23 Feudal Monarchies, 7 Oligarchic Republics, and 1 Theocratic Republic. I am that Theocracy.
I will be going for a more informal writing style.
Basic goals:
-Remain peaceful until the advent of nuclear weapons, at which point, it is time to export the Technology of Peace to the rest of the world.
-Until the above, cities must either be burned or given to someone else, unless they are size 1. Cities full of heathens are not desireable to the Lords.
-War can be declared, but cannot be fought personally until this point. Recruiting someone to fight wars for me is perfectly legal.
-Other theocracies, homes of corrupt ideologies and false idols, are exempt to Rule 1 and can be harmed or utterly obliterated when willing and able.
-Propaganda is perfectly valid as it's okay to convert heathens.
-If a rival city is up the river from one of mine, it is considered rightfully ours and can be seized under the terms of proactive self-defense. Can't have them poisoning or damming it can we?
Basic Background
In 4000 BCE, the Brotherhood of Hog gained control of fledgeling China. The new theocracy that was imposed said it was generally wrong to fight outsiders who were not directly hostile to the state. It was perfectly okay to butcher your own people in pursuit of the Divine Will, however, hence why many a laborer died on the job and was summarily used as building material in the many Imperial monuments. The End.
Well, of the background. HERE WE GO.
After copious reload-spam, we finally get a good spot that isn't trolling us with sea access right next door. Some land for farms, some rocky territory for production, a river and some gems. I'd say this is pretty good.
Fu. Fuuu! FUUUUUUUUUUU! /head asplodes
Using our various Lemm- I mean, Leaders, as explorers, we gradually uncover more of the area. Plenty of more ports, at least. Some thick woods to the east and some mountains to the West it seems. Pity I made forests settleable.
Our gambit pays off, since we unlock a new Settler. Muhahaha! The Power of Enerjak is supreme to all!
We send the Lemming Chairmen to patrol the route between Shanghai and Beijing, which will keep barbs at bay. At the very least we've established we will be in business as gem merchants. With 5 of 15 Gem sources, we should be fairly prosperous.
Turn 4, the Portuguese show up. Oh perfect. At least all accounts say we are stronger.
Lisbon is situated on a river and is coastal. Welp. I sense they're going to be our rivals.
Oh perfect. We're next to the Vikings too. We determine about 11 sources of Gems to be around our locale, however, which means we're sitting on top of the world supply. Well, if we can obliterate these squares, anyway.
Oh great. And the Germans are to the East. Shanghai fortunately will act as a "Gate."
Embassies are summarily built in all three neighbors' capitals. They all are limited to one city each, which gives us an edge. We are planning a third.
It turns out there are 17 sources of gems. Seems our estimates were off.
Exploration reveals we are on a peninsula with the Vikings and Portuguese. Loaded with gems, we hope to use our extra city as leverage.
Alright, 20 turns after. A quick report:
-6% of the population. Germany is closest at 2%, and given that they are stuck in a forest, I don't think they'll be a potent rival. More accurately, we have 7 population and everyone else has 3. So we own nearly half the known world's population. Oh jeah.
Exploration reveals we are either on an island, or a very long jut of a much bigger continent. Since we're playing continents, I'll assume the latter. I hope, because if we're on an island, being peaceful is going to be much less win.
