-Victor Miles arrived in the dark palace of Lord Raiju, escorted by a few of the Lord’s guards, Miles’s own camera men and Professor Gregory Wright of the Academy’s International Relations Department. After being escorted in Miles went to a wooden chair that had been set up for him to sit on during the interview.-

-It was not long after that the famed Lord Raiju himself also entered; while his short stature - only 4'4'' - and status of looking like a large, mobile teddy bear might make some laugh, his people's ferocity was legend. Clad in simple, clearly Oriental garbs, he would take his seat opposite his interviewer. Televisions being near non-existent in his territory, he was a bit puzzled to see one of the fabled "cameras" in person, though he had naturally underwent a bit of orientation before attending! Understanding the purpose of an interview was to ask questions, he would remain silent until prompted.-

-Miles was nervous. Before him was a leader of a... unusual kind. He had been nervous on his way to the land of a militarist power. He had also (he must admit) been nervous greeting the Raiju. Now was the leader. Nervously Miles began...-
“Before we turn on the camera and began the interview... I will need to ask the following: are you ready?”

OOC: Ohhh, you mean -I- was supposed to start the thread?

The Lord shifted a bit in his chair, as if to appear more regal for any who gazed upon him. Despite his nation's emphasis on simplicity, values such as honor and glory remained at the fore.
"I consulted with my aides quite extensively before coming. I am sure there is not a politically-relevant question you could ask that I would not have a definite answer for. So, yes, I would say I am ready to begin."

“Ok” went Miles. The debate show host and interviewer cleared his throat, giving a quick hand gesture to signal for the cameras to go on. After a slight wait Miles began: “Welcome to “So what is your view on the matter,” the debate/interview shows where we gain the views of all. Today I am interviewing a warrior figure brings mystery and fear. The figure is the head of an unusual nation renewed for its strong military based culture and of being home to another sentient species. I am speaking to Lord Raiju of the... Raiju. As I say good day I would first for our figure to give a answer to a grand question before I begin asking about your view on the matter. The question is: what is your life story before claiming the title of leader of the Raiju? I need to ask this to get a background check for the audiences to understand better...”

OOC: Ohhh, you mean -I- was supposed to start the thread? OOC: I have no idea I'm new to this! IC: The Lord's hand - or claw, it would seem - tapped beneath his chin as he thought of where to begin. "Long story short, I began as nearly all Raiju do - a humble grunt in the military. While I had the agility necessary for a Raiju spy, I was deemed too heavy, you see. My memories of my family are hazy; Raiju children were often rotated between households in their youth so as to ensure their loyalty was to the state and not to any particular group." He paused to take a breath. "It was also believed at the time that bonds would 'soften' a person, making them less suited to the harsh lifestyle Raiju citizens enjoy. Whippings, for example, were common for the slightest breach of conduct - speaking out of turn, not marching in place, stopping to take a rest when on maneuvers, the list goes on. I, like many of my fellows, bear the scars of a strict, one could almost say brutal, regime on my back." He would motion with his thumb behind his shoulder, as if to emphasise the scars on his back, hidden beneath the simple robes he wore. "As one could probably deduce, I was more than average. I was able to best my fellows in every unit, gradually working my way up the ranks, until I was serving in my predecessor's personal guard. Since you inherited the position of those you defeated in battle, at least before I took control, it's fairly obvious what happened next."

“Right...” went Miles, taking a deep breath as he gestured for a glass of water. “So... since you taken power I would to ask a question most notable: a question about your political and economic views. We have heard about the Raiju’s comments about socialism and capitalism but what of their views on democracy and the authoritarianism of other states?”

The lynx pondered his response to that one, remembering what his advisors had told him.
"The Raiju state has always been built upon the principle of the strong controlling it. However, we are firm believers in obligations of the ruling and the ruled to eachother. The ruler should look after the best interests of his or her underlings, whereas the ruled should obey, respect and honor their leader. One could argue that we follow what human political thinkers refer to as 'enlightened despotism.'"
One of his large, furry ears seemed to flick as other thoughts came to him.
"However, one can say that the masses are the strongest force of all, can't they? Democratic ideals ultimately rest on strength as much as authoritarian ones. I suppose it can be said that the Raiju are democratic by proxy - though we are classed as a dictatorship or oligarchy in nearly all reports, the various Lords and Ladies over the years have almost always tried to put the people's interests at heart. If the People did not desire the current order, surely they would have overthrown it by now, correct?"
He felt the need to summarise, realising he'd been quite wordy with his thoughts.
"Or, to put it quite simply, we do not seem to view democratic and authoritarian ideals as inherently opposed. We believe in the popular interest of a democratic regime, but the quick decision making and clear sense of direction that a dictatorial regime affords."
