Yay for first-time AARs. Welp, I wasn't actually planning to make an AAR when I started this game, so the first screenshots that would be significant don't exist. So anyways, I'm playing on a mod, Death and Taxes 5.1, on EU3. I'm shooting to make Prussia, then Germany, then eurasia or something.[That's possible on D&T right?] Sneak peak, in other words when I start owning the HRE. i.imgur.com/luBzK.jpgThis place doesn't have spoilers. I've never played Paradox games, partly on account of being intimidated by games of such massive scope since the old political sim SuperPower. I don't like using the term "casual", but how easy are they to get into, and what does gameplay actually involve?

EU3 is pretty easy to get into. Once you know what does what, you get the hang of it fast. But, Paradox games in general vary in terms of getting into them. For example, there were just too many mechanics in Victoria for me to really play it.
EU3 is in all cases an Empire-builder from my experience. Diplomacy and War are pretty much the main aspects of the game, both pretty much help you to grow. Through diplomacy alone you can make an empire, in fact. There is trade, but from what I can tell it's a lot less pivotal; I don't even bother trading early usually. But most of the game, you'll either be plotting to usurp thrones or annex countries.

You might want to make the pictures a bit smaller

Or just post the link. That's probably better for bandwidth anyway.

Europa is the easiest of all the Paradox games, imo. Crusader Kings and Vicky are... ridiculously complicated.

Pfft. If anything, EU is the hardest game. I found VicII to be much easier than EUIII.

EUIII is simple. I have not found anything in Vicky II to be anywhere that simple, but that is just my opinion.

Pfft. If anything, EU is the hardest game. I found VicII to be much easier than EUIII. Care to elaborate? I can't begin to wrap my head on the internal politics, economy, and trade in that game. Which is a solid 9/10 of it. Meanwhile, EU3's economy is basically "Don't mint too much and trade only if you think it's worth it" and internal politics hardly exists. That's not to say I'll never give vic2 another shot sooner or later. Anyway! cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/578954503483370592/C3E3CF56B1C941C568F50034A6567AFF31B8FDE2/The game that far in couldn't go any better. I annexed Pommerania very early, like anyone who's played Brandenburg dozens (exaggerating of course) times would do. After that, I noticed a LOT of thrones were in question. Thus started a series of wars. I ended up with Oldenburg, Hesse, Luneburg, and Brunswick in Personal Unions plus made Magdeburg and Mecklenburg my vassal. Once my king died, I inherited every throne I had a claim on. And I diplo-annexed both my vassals. Not a single piece of land is not cored. Germany, here I come! cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/578954578097291274/6BF16D989171577F611A3B5140ED088FB91E15F6/An event gave me a core on a piece of Munster, which I quickly took. Saxony is my vassal here. In a war with Poland, I took Poznan and Tuchel. (Their names don't appear to have loaded in yet when I took that screenshot.) I also released Hamburg from the Hansa and vassal'd it. Soon enough I got the mission to diplo-annex, so I did. cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/578954588119910311/60C6F114B52BB47A7B0DE82893C4269F5EF55E3C/In a series of about three wars I have reduced the Teutonic Order to an OPM. They had Lithuania on their side, but I (Mostly Bohemia) succeeded and released Polosk and Ukraine.) I also took a territory from Novgorod as I got an event that gave me a core on it. I also acquired a PU with Holstein and Mazovia is my vassal.
